Kevin Costner plays Senior Chief Ben Randall, a decorated Coast Guard rescue swimmer, who is sent to Rescue Swimmer training school as an A prominent scene in the movie's trailer, where Fisch tells Randall, "That is definitely NOT in the manual!" isn't in the theatrical release of the film because it actually comes from an alternate ending. In the alternate ending, Fisch successfully holds onto Randall's fingertips, getting him into the helicopter and saving him. The Guardian is never any good, and really could have benefitted from a few script rewrites before the project gotten green lit. This is a film that leaves viewers wanting more out of the film.
